The Knesset plenum rejected the proposal to impeach Arab Israeli lawmaker Ofer Kasif of the Hadash party, after he signed a petition supporting South Africa's claim that Israel committed genocide made against Israel in The Hague. Some 85 Knesset members supported the proposal and 11 opposed. According to the provisions of the Basic Law: The Knesset, this proposal requires a majority of 90 members of the Knesset, and therefore it did not pass. Most members of the Yesh Atid party did not participate in the vote, after party chairman Yair Lapid, who was absent, said that he would not vote for the impeachment and allowed the members of his faction to vote the way they wished. Also, all the Knesset members from the Labor Party boycotted the vote. In the National Unity party, the votes were divided, and chairman Benny Gantz was absent from the vote. (Sivan Hilaie)
