Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed the advisory committee for senior appointments headed by retired Supreme Court President Asher Grunis of his intention to appoint Major General (Ret.) David Zini as the head of the Shin Bet. According to Netanyahu, "Zini's critical thinking in his various roles, his willingness to think outside the box and his ability to lead and adapt the system to changing realities lead to the conclusion that he is the most suitable candidate."
