Iran has discussed with Oman, a U.S. ally, cooperating on collecting tolls in the Strait of Hormuz – ignoring opposition from U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration. This was reported by The New York Times, which noted that the very fact of these discussions could signal that the U.S. and Iran are nowhere near ending the conflict. Two sources involved in the talks said that Iran does not plan to charge money for passage itself through the strait, but rather payment and fees "for services." Two Iranian sources told the newspaper that Oman is willing to use its influence over its neighbors in the region, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates – and also the U.S. – to advance the plan due to the economic profit inherent in it.
