Democratic candidate Josh Turk won the Senate race in Iowa, defeating Republican Congresswoman Ashley Hinson, as announced by leading U.S. media outlets. Turk, a former basketball player who won gold medals at the Paralympic Games and uses a wheelchair, will be the first senator with a visible physical disability of this kind elected to Congress in decades. His victory transfers to the Democrats a seat that had been held by Republicans in a state where Trump won by more than 13 percentage points in the 2024 election. Hinson enjoyed the support of the president, who visited the state twice in the final weeks of the campaign.
