Ayalon Highways has announced two weeks of staged closures on KKL Bridge in north Tel Aviv as part of rehabilitation and safety works, a move expected to cause heavy congestion in the area even during the final week of the summer school break.
The closures will run from August 15 through August 28, with a different section blocked at each stage. The first phase will begin Saturday night, August 15, at 11:30 p.m. and continue until Friday, August 22, at 6 a.m. The second phase will begin immediately afterward, from Saturday night, August 22, at 11:30 p.m. until Friday, August 28, at 6 a.m.

During the first stage, west-to-east lanes on the bridge will be closed, and drivers exiting Ayalon South will not be able to turn left. In the second stage, traffic will be blocked in the opposite direction. The Ayalon Highway itself will remain open throughout the works.
Ayalon Highways said the project was scheduled for late August because traffic volumes on the affected roads are typically lower during that period. Navigation apps such as Waze have already been updated to reflect the closures.
“The works will be carried out with traffic inspectors and in coordination with Israel Police, and public transportation routes and bus stop locations will also be changed,” the company said. “These are essential safety works being advanced by the Transportation Ministry and Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality through Ayalon Highways. Every effort will be made to complete the works ahead of schedule.”

Separately, overnight works also are planned at the Ganot Interchange. Beginning at 1 a.m., the exit ramp from Route 4 northbound to the interchange will be closed and will reopen at 5 a.m. During the same hours, the exit ramp from Route 4 southbound to Route 1 eastbound also will be closed.
