U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price responded to Otzma Yehudit Chairman Itamar Ben Gvir's post on Thursday in honor of the anniversary of the assassination of racist Rabbi Meir Kahane.
"Celebrating the legacy of a terrorist organization is abhorrent. There is no other word for it," said Price. "We urge all parties to maintain calm, exercise restraint, and to refrain from actions that only serve to exacerbate tensions and that includes in Jerusalem."
Kahane was an ultranationalist spiritual leader and lawmaker who advocated for the deportation of Arab citizens. Ben Gvir was a member of his Kach and Kahane Chai movements as a teenager.
