President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced Friday a donation from the European Union to a new project at Yad Vashem that will focus on the Jewish communities destroyed in the Holocaust.
Von der Leyen conveyed that "the history of the Jewish people is the history of Europe. European life would not have been the same without Jewish culture. The Nazis tried to erase all of that. They murdered six million European Jews, the greatest tragedy in human history. We must tell the story of the Holocaust."
