3 years later, intelligence officer recognized by IDF: 'Warned that Hamas was prepared for surprise attack'

At a ceremony presenting lessons learned from the events of October 7, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir awarded a certificate of appreciation to Staff Sergeant W. from Unit 8200 – who 'warned before the massacre that Hamas was prepared for a large-scale surprise attack.' 'It was important for me to invite Staff Sergeant W. here – W. is a prime example of intellectual courage and professionalism,' Zamir said. 'In our organizational culture, we must not allow complacent discourse, intellectual tyranny or suppression of critical thinking. We as commanders must ensure that we demand from our people freedom of expression as an essential component in our operational culture and in our frameworks.'
