Journalists' Union on Broadcasting Law: 'Bill aims to harm public discourse'

|
The Israeli Journalists' Union responded to the Ministerial Committee for Legislation's approval of the Broadcasting Law bill, stating: "The Attorney General's legal opinion on the Communications Law determines that the proposal by Prime Minister Netanyahu's envoy, Communications Minister Karhi, will harm the Israeli public, the independence of news companies and allow commercial and political interference in news content." The union further stated that "the bill has only one purpose - to turn news broadcasts into government propaganda and severely damage public discourse, press freedom and democracy in Israel."
