Sagui Dekel-Chen: 'There are things related to the disaster that trigger anxiety – like building a sukkah'

|
Hostage survivor Sagui Dekel-Chen spoke at the October Council's exhibition marking three years since the massacre. He shared: "It's not easy for me here. I've walked past living objects of dead people. It triggers me. Books say there are elements that can cause distress. Speaking Arabic, sirens, noises. But there are also simpler things like darkness, hunger or pain. Even with a doctor's supervision. And recently I realized there are things related to the disaster I never imagined how complex it would be to encounter again. Like building a sukkah. It's not just sadness, it really triggers anxiety. Sometimes I initiate small meetings with these triggers, like today. So far it doesn't help. But these are the lives of those who stayed alive."
