Israel has been suspended from the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) following actions by the Israeli government, which the organization claims are inconsistent with its basic commitment to saving lives, ynet has learned. In a brief but exceptionally strongly-worded official letter, the organization announced the termination of Israel's participation in the European Road Safety Performance Index (PIN) program - with no clear path for return. According to the letter, the decision was made at a meeting of the organization's board of directors on October 21. It was then agreed to suspend Israel's National Road Safety Authority from the program, "until further notice," effective December 1. The letter also stated that "the recent measures of the current Israeli government are not considered compatible with the principled commitment of ETSC and the PIN program to protect human life."
