The Wall Street Journal reported that a network managed by Babak Zanjani, an Iranian who describes himself as an "anti-sanctions activist," conducted transactions worth $850 million over the past two years on the Binance cryptocurrency exchange. Experts in the field identified additional money movements in accounts associated with Iran and estimated that the crypto exchange served the Revolutionary Guards as a major artery for bypassing economic sanctions imposed on Iran—and through it large sums flowed to the Iranian regime, enabling it to continue functioning normally. It should be noted that Binance founder Changpeng Zhao was pardoned by President Donald Trump last October.
