Iran’s Revolutionary Guards chief Hossein Salami warned Sunday that Tehran would respond "decisively and destructively" if U.S. threats materialize, following American airstrikes on Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis.
Salami downplayed Iran’s role in the conflict, insisting the Houthis are independent and make their own strategic and operational decisions. His remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump launched a major military campaign against the Houthis, targeting their Red Sea shipping attacks and killing at least 31 people.
Trump also issued a direct warning to Iran, the Houthis’ main backer, saying, "BEWARE, because America will hold you fully accountable and, we won’t be nice about it!"
The unfolding airstrikes, which could last weeks, mark the largest U.S. military operation in the Middle East since Trump took office, as Washington escalates pressure on Tehran amid stalled nuclear negotiations.
