The Labor Party and Meretz have announced Sunday evening a merger under the name The Democrats. The new party will be led by former IDF Deputy Chief of Staff Major General (Res.) Yair Golan, who is expected to receive two reserved spots: one in the top ten and another in the second ten.
"Unlike previous occasions, this is not a 'technical bloc' but a historic move that finally creates one large, united party—a liberal-democratic Zionist party that will serve as a political home for a large segment of the Israeli public," the new party said.
