Danny Elgart, whose brother Itzik was kidnapped and killed in captivity, said in an interview with Ynet that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's earlier statement that 'we want to return the hostages, but the supreme goal of the war is victory' means that the loss of hostages' lives is 'an acceptable price for creating future deterrence.' According to him, 'This is a deep and fundamental undermining of the contract between the state and its citizens. This is not just abandonment of the hostages, it's abandonment of the sense of belonging, mutual responsibility, and the trust we all need to live here together. But as long as the hostages are in Gaza, Hamas is winning and Netanyahu is losing.'
