Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara rejected the police request to open a criminal investigation against MK Ahmad Tibi, following a televised confrontation between the lawmaker and police spokesman Deputy Commissioner Arie Doron, during which Tibi made harsh statements against the spokesman. Among other things, Tibi called the spokesman "mafia," "zero" and "loudmouth." The legal opinion determined that the statements were made as part of the Knesset member's public activity and within the framework of political discourse, even if crude, and therefore he has substantive immunity from prosecution for these statements.
