Russia has officially recognized the Taliban government in Afghanistan, becoming the first country to do so. The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that they received the credentials of the Afghan ambassador in Moscow. The ministry issued a statement saying: "We believe that the official recognition of the government in Afghanistan will provide an incentive for the development of cooperation between the countries in various fields."
