The Pentagon is exerting growing pressure on American weapons giants to rapidly increase production rates, amid sharp depletion of U.S. missile and interceptor stockpiles following the ongoing war with Iran. The Washington Post reported on a new memo sent by Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg to defense industry executives. According to the memo, companies were required to submit plans to the Pentagon within 21 days that would enable significant acceleration of weapons supply and increase production capacity for systems defined as critical. Feinberg made clear that from the administration's perspective, development and production processes that take years are no longer suitable for the needs of a military required to operate at the pace of war.
