Minister Eliyahu contacts Supreme Court Justice Kasher via WhatsApp, who responds in his ruling: 'Not the proper way'

|
The Supreme Court did not issue a conditional order against the appointment of Esti Shreiber as director general of the Israel Antiquities Authority, after dozens of senior academics filed a petition to the High Court of Justice against the controversial appointment. Justice Yechiel Kasher wrote that Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu and the other respondents must submit their response by July 16. The justice wrote that last night he received a message from Minister Eliyahu via WhatsApp, in which he wrote, among other things, that 'we would not appoint someone who does not meet the standards.' The justice criticized the minister: 'As evident from the above quote, the message appears to have been sent by Respondent 1 (Minister Eliyahu). It goes without saying that contacting the court in the manner described above is not the proper way to submit a position to the court.'
