The Meteorological Service reported on the severe heatwave that struck the country, announcing that temperature records were broken in several locations. In central and northern regions, temperatures approached historic May records: Kibbutz Netiv HaLamed-Heh in the Judean lowlands recorded 43.1°C at noon, compared to May's record of 43.6°C. Afula reached 43.2°C, near its record of 43.5°C. Jerusalem hills recorded 38.5°C. Dozens of stations in the north, Sharon region and lowlands measured temperatures of 41-42°C. The Sea of Galilee, Beit Shean Valley, Jordan Valley and Arava recorded 44-45°C, compared to previous records of 46-47°C. Kibbutz Eilon in Western Galilee recorded 41.6°C, one degree higher than the previous record of 40.6°C set in 1999. Neve Yaar in the Jezreel Valley recorded 43.2°C, matching the May record.
