U.S.: 1,700 troops placed under state governors' command to assist in immigration enforcement

The Trump administration has placed approximately 1,700 troops under the command of state governors to assist in enforcing immigration laws, Pentagon spokesman Sean Fernell announced. According to him, "The service status of 1,200 military personnel who were already assisting in the mission has been changed, and an additional 500 military personnel have been authorized to assist in immigration efforts."
