A senior official in the Gaza Peace Council said that contrary to impressions, the ceasefire in the Strip is not collapsing. Following a report in The New York Times that the possibility of leaving light weapons in Hamas' hands at the start of the demilitarization process is being considered, the official said: 'There is a hierarchy for weapons disarmament. The last thing that will happen is the return of light weapons. Naturally, Hamas is not willing to return all the weapons in one go because they claim there are clans in Gaza that will kill them, so they demand to delay the return of light weapons until an agreed-upon security force is established in Gaza. What was agreed is that they will start first with tunnels, then weapons production facilities, RPGs and mortars, and at the end the light weapons. That will be the last thing.'
