An interdisciplinary committee of experts appointed by the Ministry of Defense, in cooperation with the IDF Disabled Veterans Organization, has made a precedent-setting determination that there is a medical-causal connection between PTSD and common chronic diseases. The diseases found to be linked include Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, stroke, fibromyalgia, psoriasis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The committee recommends recognizing a causal-medical connection at a rate of one-third, conducting preventive screening tests and establishing a national body for PTSD treatment.
