The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment with the Jerusalem District Court against Yan Shmela, 41, from Be'er Sheva, who inserted prescription drugs into baby food puree in Jerusalem. According to the indictment, five infants were poisoned as a result of his actions in May and June. Shmela possessed prescription drugs from the benzodiazepine family, which are prohibited for use in children without approval from a specialist. On several occasions, he crushed pills and inserted them into jars of Prinutz baby food. Shmela is charged with five counts of using a dangerous poison, five counts of assaulting a minor or helpless person and more.
