The Supreme Court acquitted sex offender Adel Hiyab, who was convicted of raping an 82-year-old woman in August 2022. Hiyab was charged with rape and previously acquitted unanimously in the District Court, but an appeal by the prosecution to the Supreme Court was accepted and he was convicted of the offense. Subsequently, Hiyab filed a motion for a further hearing, and today he was acquitted once again. The reasons for his acquittal will be published at a later date. Attorney Fathi Fukara, who represented Hiyab on behalf of the Public Defender's Office, stated: "I fought his just battle all these years. This is a rare legal achievement and fortunately the majority judges accepted our position."
