Spain's Transport Minister Oscar Puente said the deadly train crash in Toledo occurred after a Renfe high-speed train was given clearance to proceed despite an active red light that appeared due to a train stopped on the track ahead, violating protocol. Speaking to reporters in Madrid, the minister said the red light was activated due to a computerized communication malfunction that automatically halted traffic, and that a wrong decision was made to resume the train's movement. Puente refused to answer whether he would resign from his position.
