Ultra-Orthodox change direction, demand Bismuth replace Edelstein as Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chair

The ultra-Orthodox parties are demanding that MK Boaz Bismuth replace Yuli Edelstein as chair of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee - despite Netanyahu's office indicating MK Hanoch Milwidsky as the candidate. A source in the ultra-Orthodox parties said the demand emerged after effective dialogue with MK Bismuth, and they were impressed that he is "right for the task," after he promised them he could pass a "conscription law" that would exempt tens of thousands of ultra-Orthodox from military service. Bismuth is also supported by the liberal wing of Likud, which seeks an equitable law.
