Families of soldiers who committed suicide petition High Court against committee that did not recognize them as fallen soldiers

|
Families of soldiers who committed suicide have filed a petition to the High Court of Justice against the recommendations of the Almoz Committee, which did not recognize them as IDF fallen soldiers. The family members are asking to determine that there is a direct connection between military service and the suicides, and therefore there is no legal or moral justification to deny these fighters the status of IDF fallen soldiers and the full state recognition for their families. In the petition, written on behalf of the families, the Jerusalem Institute for Justice and the Combat Diamond Forum, it is claimed that this is severe discrimination and a distinction between physical and mental injury, and that since the outbreak of the war at least 74 fighters have committed suicide and approximately 279 suicide attempts have been documented.
