Aircraft manufacturer Airbus announced that approximately 6,000 A320 aircraft operating worldwide need an urgent software update, after a safety incident investigation revealed that "intense solar radiation" could affect critical data for the aircraft's control systems. It should be noted that Israeli airlines also operate this type of aircraft in their fleets. Arkia stated that "currently there is no change in the company's plans." Israir reported that the company has one aircraft of the model in question, which will require an update and will be put back into service tomorrow morning. Most aircraft are expected to receive a relatively simple software update from the cockpit, with minimal downtime. However, about 1,000 older aircraft will need to undergo a physical hardware upgrade and will need to be grounded for the duration of maintenance. The required fix is expected to affect hundreds of flights worldwide.
