Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said at the Katif Conference for National Responsibility in Yad Binyamin that "we are closer than ever to rebuilding it (Gush Katif) again." He explained that "where there is no settlement, there is no army and where there is no army, there is no security. Gaza is an inseparable part of Israel. I don't want to return to Gush Katif, it's too small, too crowded, it needs to be much bigger, much wider."
