The Iranian regime planned to assassinate Josef Schuster, head of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, and Volker Beck, chairman of the German-Israeli Friendship Association. This emerged from indictments filed by the German Federal Prosecutor's Office against two men in connection with Iranian espionage and attack planning. According to a report in Der Spiegel magazine, at the center of the investigation is a Danish citizen of Afghan origin who worked for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and maintained close ties with the Quds Force, receiving orders from Tehran in early 2025. As part of the preparations, it was reported, he also spied on Jewish institutions in Berlin and attempted to recruit accomplices. In addition, he contacted an Afghan citizen who agreed to procure weapons and arrange for an assassin to murder Volker Beck.
