A man who donated sperm between 1974-1985 at clinics in central Israel and recently passed away was discovered to be a carrier of Lynch syndrome, a genetic mutation that dramatically increases the risk of developing cancer - particularly colorectal and uterine cancer. The Ministry of Health made this announcement. It is estimated that dozens of Israelis aged 40-50 who were born from these donations may have inherited this syndrome and will now need to undergo genetic testing. Some will need to undergo more comprehensive cancer screening. The Ministry of Health recommends that anyone who knows they were born from sperm donations made in central Israel during these years should contact a genetic laboratory to test for the mutation.
