The October Families Council responded to the government's decision not to establish a state commission of inquiry and instead propose legislation for a 'special investigation committee,' stating: "The Israeli government openly admits it will formulate legislation to establish a convenient alternative investigation." They added: "We remind government members: Given that a state commission of inquiry would need to investigate your decisions in the years leading up to October 7, you have a clear conflict of interest. We will not allow you to engineer and establish a convenient investigation committee. The investigated party cannot appoint their own investigator."
