Israel Intervenes for Syrian Druze: IDF Strikes 'Extremist Group Formation'

|
The IDF conducted a 'warning operation' and struck a formation of an extremist group that was preparing to continue attacks on Druze in the town of Es'hania in Syria's Damascus province, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz. The announcement stated that a stern message was also conveyed to the Syrian regime: 'Israel expects them to act to prevent harm to the Druze. We will not allow harm to the Druze community in Syria due to our deep commitment to our Druze brothers in Israel, who are connected through family ties and history to their Druze brothers in Syria.' The announcement came after the spiritual leader of the Druze community in Israel, Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, called on the government to protect the Druze in Syria.
