The 20-year-old soldier suspected of reckless manslaughter in the death of triathlete Tal Gelbua was released to his home without restrictive conditions, and his license was revoked for 90 days. The investigation revealed that the 20-year-old, a resident of the Golan Heights, was driving under the influence of alcohol and fatally struck triathlete Tal Gelbua, who was riding his bicycle. His attorney Kobi Tal stated that "this is a salt of the earth individual, a soldier with values who provided assistance to the cyclist and called emergency services." The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Gelbua, 47, from Kibbutz Kfar Haruv in the southern Golan Heights, was killed on Saturday near the Magshimim Junction.
