The Central District Court sentenced Palestinian Daoud Abit to 21 years in prison and ordered him to pay 150,000 shekels in compensation after he was convicted of attempted murder under circumstances of terrorism for running over a young man with the intention of killing a Jew. Abit, a Palestinian Authority resident married to an Israeli woman from Qalansawe, decided during a drive in September 2023 with his wife and infant daughter to carry out an attack against a Jew, with the aim of dying a "martyr's death - shahid," according to the indictment. Later that day, near the central bus station in Netanya, Abit spotted a young man riding an electric scooter on the side of the road. Assuming he was a Jewish Israeli, he swerved his vehicle toward him and hit him with great force. He immediately fled the scene.
