A 23-year-old man from central Israel was arrested yesterday on suspicion of rape at a hotel in Eilat that occurred last weekend. According to police, the suspect met the victim while staying with his friends at the hotel: "The two went up to the room, the suspect tried to have sexual relations with her and she refused. Afterward, he raped her against her will." The young man was arrested after the victim filed a complaint against him, and according to police, he exercised his right to remain silent during questioning. His defense attorney claimed: "He is a young man who served in the IDF, has no criminal record, works a steady job and comes from a completely normative family. He maintained his right to silence because he was frightened and this is his first entanglement with the law." The suspect's detention was extended by 6 days.
