Goldknopf after arrest of ultra-Orthodox deserters: 'No country arrests Torah students'

Agudat Yisrael chairman Yitzhak Goldknopf addressed Defense Minister Israel Katz following the arrest of three ultra-Orthodox deserters who broke into a construction site of the "Aura" company in Yehud, writing: "I was shocked to hear that three yeshiva students were arrested. They were transferred to the military police, who arrested them for failing to respond to the provocative conscription orders sent to harm the Torah world and the ultra-Orthodox public. There is no country in the world where those seeking to study Torah are arrested and thrown into prison." Goldknopf asked Katz "to act quickly to release the Torah students and prevent further arrests."
