Report: American spy plane severely damaged in attack on Saudi base

|
In the Iranian attack on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, an American E-3 Sentry surveillance aircraft was severely damaged, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. The AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) is equipped with a powerful radar and its role includes identifying threats and coordinating air operations. A former senior U.S. Air Force official told the newspaper that 'this is a serious problem, the U.S. ability to see what is happening in the Persian Gulf has been compromised.'
