The Lod District Court sentenced the three defendants in the murder case of Aya Abu Haj'aj (26), who was killed in Lod in 2023, in front of her two young children and while in advanced pregnancy. Abu Haj'aj's half-brother, who was about 14 at the time of the murder, and her cousin who was about 15, were convicted of murder under aggravating circumstances jointly and of additional offenses, and were sentenced to 22 and 17 years in prison, respectively. The victim's father was convicted of aiding the murder and of additional offenses, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. In addition, the court ordered the defendants to pay compensation to her children in a total amount of more than 300,000 shekels.
