Jewish-American conductor, pianist and composer Michael Tilson Thomas, one of the most important and influential figures in the modern classical music world, has died at 81. Tilson Thomas passed away at his home in San Francisco after a prolonged battle with an aggressive brain tumor he had been fighting in recent years.
