The death toll from Ebola has crossed 4,000 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the latest data from Congolese authorities. The data also shows that approximately 8,300 cases of the disease have been officially confirmed, with only 2,162 of them having recovered. The current outbreak, the 17th, began in Ituri province in northeastern Congo and has spread to seven additional provinces in the region.
