New York is the world's leading city for 2026, and Tel Aviv has entered the global top tier at 34th place, according to the Global Cities Index by research firm Oxford Economics, which examined 1,000 cities based on economy, human capital, quality of life, environment and governance. Tel Aviv, which received an overall score of 81.2 out of 100, ranked ahead of Vienna, San Diego and Seoul. It showed relatively high scores in economy and human capital, but a lower score in the governance index. Haifa ranked 144th and Jerusalem 179th. New York took first place thanks to its economic strength and labor market, followed by London and Paris. Rounding out the top ten are Seattle, San Francisco, Dublin, Boston, San Jose, Tokyo and Zurich. According to the index's compilers, the leading cities stand out not only for their economic strength, but also for their ability to attract skilled labor, quality of life, culture, infrastructure, environment and government institutions.
