Senior Sgt. Niv Peretz (29) from Afula has been identified as the police officer killed last night in the line of duty when he was shot in the village of Zalafa in the Maale Iron Regional Council, near Umm al-Fahm. Senior Sgt. Peretz, who served as a detective at the Umm al-Fahm police station, was shot during a pursuit of gun dealers. He is survived by his parents, brother and sister.
