Britain's Labour government is promoting a joint statement by about 50 countries on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which includes a series of demands from the Israeli government. Among the demands are removing restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid, expanding the operations of international aid organizations and granting access to journalists and diplomatic delegations to the Strip. The statement is expected to be published as a follow-up to the British initiative 'Gaza: Call to Action' launched in September with the support of Australia, Denmark, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The new statement is expected to include an abridged version of the original initiative, while reiterating three commitments by the signatory countries and eight demands directed at Israel.
