Nasrallah thanks Winograd for his 'honesty'

Hizbullah leader lauds Winograd Commission for its inquiry of Second Lebanon War, says report proves Israel made many mistakes during fighting. Nasrallah also claims his organization has missiles capable of reaching 'every part in occupied Palestine'

Hizbullah chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah lauded Wednesday the Winograd Commission for its report on the Second Lebanon War, saying, "We thank (Judge Eliyahu) Winograd for his honesty."

Nasrallah made the statement during a joint interview with Hizbullah's political ally, Christian leader Michel Aoun, to Lebanese channel OTV.

"The most important achievement of the 'July War' is that Israel admitted defeat and the resistance and Lebanon were victorious," he said.

According to Nasrallah, the Winograd Report emphasized the many mistakes Israel had made in the war. The Hizbullah leader also claimed that the report contains proof that Israel had planned to launch an attack against the Shiite organization in September 2006.

Turning his attention to the Lebanese side during the war, he said: "The most prominent element in the resistance was the fighting of our young men, but another important element was the support from the public.

"Those warriors' families have been uprooted from their homes. Over a million people have been uprooted, and they were warmly embraced by the Lebanese people, especially in the Christian areas…"

.

Nasrallah also made reference to Hizbullah's large missile and rocket stocks, which he claimed include long-range missiles capable of reaching every part of Israel. "When I spoke about the fact that we have missiles covering all of Israel's territory, I did not do so to incite, but rather to prevent a war. Israel should realize that no place in occupied Palestine is safe," he stated.
