Soldier seriously wounded from involuntary gunfire

Police arrive at a Tel Aviv apartment Saturday to determine circumstances of incident; initial investigation indicates bullet was accidentally fired by a fellow soldier.

An IDF soldier aged 19 was wounded on Saturday afternoon and left in serious condition after a bullet was accidentally fired in an apartment in Tel Aviv.
According to an initial investigation, the bullet fired came from a gun belonging to his friend, also a 19-year-old soldier.

Police and military police officers arriving at the apartment began investigating the circumstances surrounding incident.

It is the second time a similar incident has occurred within two months. In April, Amit Popowitz, 23, was killed in his apartment in Kedumim in the West Bank from accidental gunfire while his friend was cleaning his gun.
The bullet hit Popowitz directly, leaving him in critical condition. Shortly after, he succumbed to his wounds.
