Microsoft will lay off about 9,000 employees as a result of another large-scale efficiency drive. According to a company spokesperson, this move will affect less than 4% of its global workforce. This constitutes the second major wave of layoffs at the tech giant this year, following the previous round in May.
This is a global move, and it is still unclear how it will affect Microsoft Israel. However, it is reasonable to cautiously estimate that the Israeli branch will be affected.
During the May layoffs, around 100 employees in Israel were affected out of a total of 3,000 employees, and the global layoff percentage was 3%, so it’s likely that this number will be similar this time.

According to the spokesperson, the cuts will impact various teams across different geographic regions. “We continue to implement organizational changes necessary for the company’s success in a dynamic market,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying by Bloomberg.
In May, Microsoft announced the layoff of 3% of its employees across all levels and geographic regions, affecting approximately 6,000 employees. At the end of June 2024, the company employed around 228,000 people, 45,000 of whom were in sales and marketing.
