All-seeing eye: Israeli startup revolutionizes mass security screening

Scanary unveils a contactless mass security system that can screen up to 25,000 people per hour using AI-powered radar and electromagnetic imaging to detect hidden threats in real time; pilot to begin in Israel and US

Israeli startup Scanary unveiled a groundbreaking technology for mass security screening, capable of processing up to 25,000 people per hour without physical contact or bottlenecks. The system detects hidden objects on individuals in motion across 200 square meters (2,153 square feet), identifying threats in under two seconds and alerting security teams automatically. It was introduced on Wednesday
Led by Dr. Gideon Levita, a former senior radar engineer for the Iron Dome and Trophy defense systems, Scanary’s technology combines radar sensors with artificial intelligence (AI) to scan crowds at a distance of up to 10 meters (33 feet).

The patented system uses electromagnetic imaging to create 3D images of objects, distinguishing harmless items like phones or keys from dangerous ones like weapons, even those made of non-metallic materials. Augmented reality pinpoints threat locations, ensuring rapid response.

The non-invasive system operates without facial recognition or biometric tracking, complying with strict privacy regulations. It eliminates the need for individual checks, such as emptying pockets or removing shoes, maintaining crowd flow in busy venues like event halls, public transit, airports and malls.

Already approved in Europe, Scanary is pursuing U.S. regulatory clearance, with pilot programs planned in Israel and the U.S. in the coming months. Founded in 2024 by high-tech and defense industry veterans, Scanary employs 10 experts, mostly in AI and algorithms from medical device sectors.
CEO Ronen Yashvitz, a former IDF intelligence Unit 8200 member and CEO of Gita Technologies, stressed the system’s transformative potential. “Our vision redefines public safety in open spaces,” he said.
“By integrating AI, advanced imaging and computer vision, we detect threats from a distance without stopping people, forming lines or compromising privacy. This is a true leap in security, respecting individuals while cutting operational costs.”
