Beijing has asked some Chinese technology companies to halt orders for Nvidia’s H200 chips this week and may require purchases of domestically made AI chips, The Information reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Nvidia did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said this week at the Consumer Electronics Show that demand in China for the H200 chip remains strong.
Late last year, President Donald Trump’s administration approved exports of the H200 to China, reversing earlier restrictions on advanced AI hardware. The approval was contingent on Nvidia paying a 25% revenue-sharing tax to the US government.
